Saigon was the capital of south Vietnam and its capture marked the end of the Vietnam War. It was renamed Ho Chi Minh city after its fall in 1975. Since then the city has risen to the largest city in Vietnam. When visiting the former Saigon, there is more than enough night life. The best way to get the night started is to sample a few bars. Rex Hotel Rooftop Beer Garden: This is listed in some books as one of the 1000 places to see before you die. Certainly not something to be missed when in Vietnam. Located on the rooftop of the Rex Hotel, this bar is decorated with bird cages and is one of the most unique places in all of Vietnam with a full menu of drinks to choose from and a view from the top that is unmatched anywhere else.

Carmen Bar: Enter this cramped and crowded bar through an old stone staircase and hear the Latin music as it comes more into focus. The walls are made of rough rocks that give this place something unique all its own. Choose from an excellent cocktail menu and listen to the amazing music at this excellent local bar.

Underground Bar and Grill: The bar has icy cold beer and some great food to go along with it. The drink specials are better than most of the other bars in Vietnam and even when it is crammed on the weekends, there are deals to be had. Televisions are scattered around with live sporting events playing on them.

Saigon Saigon Bar: This is another bar located on the rooftop. This one on top of the Caravelle Hotel. This is the perfect place to come early and watch the sun set, or at night to see the beautiful city lights. Sit down, relax and order a cocktail from a wide selection of beverages on the menu.

Q Bar: This is the spot for expatriates and tourists. The drink list is endless and an outdoor terrace has recently been added on to make more room for guests. Its signature drink is a Vodka Martini and the bar also serves sushi and pizza to munch on while drinking. Sit down at the bar and relax while enjoying a good meal and a nice drink.

Nhac Tre No. 1: Also known as Olympic, this bar has more bartenders than can be imagined. The atmosphere is laid back and the ample amount of bartenders love to pour shots all night. It can get very crowded at night so arrive early and mingle with the locals at this Vietnamese bar.
